Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Police then located multiple other smeared automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important official stated the attack left him without words and required to be solved promptly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
