19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev secured his maiden title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former number one, has had a challenging period, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.

This represents his maiden title following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court from that period of 2023.

The win also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my children together, so to get a championship is really nice," stated ranked player the champion.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive play style and regular outbursts on the tennis court had led commentators to question if his ability to play at the highest level was concluded.

But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to create a final set.

He saved four initial break points in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the title with a shot at the net area, with Moutet unable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
